Samantha Farnum

Sam is a lifelong artist whose work inhabits the space between myth and memory, beauty and imperfection. With nearly two decades devoted to oil painting and fourteen years of experience as a tattoo artist, her practice draws upon the romantic sensibilities of the Pre-Raphaelites, weaving together threads of mythology, folklore, and the quiet mysteries of the natural world.

Originally trained on the East Coast, Sam has called Hawai‘i home for the past ten years. In 2024, she opened her private studio, Sea Foams Blood.

Though her recent years have been largely devoted to tattooing, painting remains a deeply personal journey of discovery. For Sam, the blank canvas is not something to conquer, but an invitation to surrender. She allows the work to unfold in its own time, following the unexpected marks, imperfections, and quiet revelations that emerge along the way.

Her work invites the viewer into a world where myth feels tangible, beauty is never quite still, and every image seems to carry the echo of a story waiting to be remembered.

In her high school experience, Sam attended 2 summers of pre-college at Maryland Institute College of Art in Baltimore where she discovered her love for oil painting. From these summers' experiences, Sam was inspired to attend the Montgomery College School of Art & Design where she obtained her Associates of Fine Arts.
