I, Aurélia M., am a contemporary painter based in Montfort-l’Amaury, a historic village near Versailles, just outside Paris, whose artistic heritage has profoundly influenced my relationship with colour, light and movement.

There is something particularly evocative about creating art in a place where artistic expression has been part of the landscape for centuries.

At the heart of Montfort stands the remarkable Saint-Pierre Church, whose reconstruction began in the early sixteenth century under Anne de Bretagne, continued under her daughter Claude de France, and was later expanded during the time of Catherine de Médicis, Countess of Montfort. Its extraordinary Renaissance stained-glass windows remain a powerful study in colour, light, movement and narrative.

Centuries later, Montfort-l’Amaury became home to Maurice Ravel, who lived here from 1921 to 1937 and composed important works at Le Belvédère. His presence continues to contribute to the distinctive artistic atmosphere of the village.
