Hector’s great grandfather was an artist in Spain who worked with the restoration of the Castle Monterreal in Baiona, Galicia. Although he never met the man when he had the opportunity to visit the region as a child, he found him to be an inspiration. Color became his focus in college studying under Robert Swain, Ralph Humphrey, Vincent Longo, Robert Hout and Roy Decavara at Hunter College in New York City. During this time, he had the opportunity to intern with the Spanish Institute in New York City. His year at the Institute allowed him to study the color of Spanish and Latin American artists. Following graduation, he interviewed with the New York Historical Society to photographically document historical renovations and then apprenticed as a table top stylist working with various photographers and advertising agencies in New York City.
