Jeffrey Royan

I am a Malaysian painter whose work explores the relationship between personal experience, memory and place. Drawing inspiration from encounters with different cultures, landscapes and everyday situations, my paintings offer a personal interpretation of the world around me.

Influenced by Fauvism (in a way I guess), I like using bold colours, expressive forms and simplified figures to create compositions that move beyond literal representation. Rather than reproducing places exactly as they appear, I transform observations and experiences into vivid, imaginative scenes.

Painting for me, is a way of preserving and reinterpreting moments experienced throughout life. Each work becomes a visual record of a particular encounter, shaped not only by what was seen, but also by what was felt and remembered.
