Depositi Jiwa

JIWA is the artistic project of an Italian author who exists between Sicily and non-place. His research moves across painting, drawing, music, video art and poetry as a single body of practice, held together by a constant attention to time — understood as the trace left by matter as it transforms, a basin that embraces an archipelago of languages.

Trained in Audio Production in Liverpool and later in Technological Arts in Catania, JIWA brings into his pictorial language a layered memory of techniques and gestures drawn from the historical avant-gardes of the twentieth century, filtered through a self-taught practice of matter — water, pigments (acrylic, food-based), olive oil, denatured alcohol, air, gravity. In his works on paper, canvas and other supports, gesture coexists with surrender to process: the artist acts, matter decides the rest.
