Jonny Walman (b. 1981) is a contemporary British mixed-media painter born in Barnsley south Yorkshire, now living in Liverpool UK. After being discouraged from pursuing visual arts in his youth, Walman experienced a decades-long hiatus from the canvas, during which he battled severe substance and gambling addictions. Turning to art and music as a therapeutic lifeline during his recovery journey at age 41, he unlocked a dormant creative force, channeling raw survival, personal history, and socio-political themes into heavily textured, visceral works.
Working primarily with acrylics, palette knives, and integrated text elements, Walman’s artistic style is defined by an energetic, neo-expressionist approach. His portfolio spans striking, fractured portraits exploring old and reformed identities, vibrant celebrations of cultural icons, and deeply textural narrative pieces reflecting historical working-class struggles, such as the UK Miners' Strike. His art serves as both a literal confrontation with past trauma and a vivid testament to human resilience, transforming internal chaos into permanent, arresting visual stories.
