Dana De Luca

I search for myself as photographer with a gaze without choice or refusal. From this threshold I can encounter form and formless, fullness and emptiness, silence and entropy, without diverting and distinguishing myself, but taking part and becoming an instrument. This zero degree of gaze sometimes follows other logics: it is dispersed by those influences of my iconographic heritage and my subjective sensitivity. I follow its flow, erratic and fluid. Retrieving sensory experiences closer to the cyclic rhythm of nature, my feeling is akin to a neo-romantic sensibility that I decline also in my artistic work. An action that arises from attempts and random events, which welcomes the immediate and the accidental, experimenting with different tools and techniques: from the pinhole to the chemigram, film and digital, drawing and word.

My artistic background was formed in the practice and discipline of theatre.
Resident in Madrid from 2000 to 2007, I worked as independent photographer joining different media (Servimedia, Red Cross Spain, national magazines). Back in Italy I focused my work in a more artistic research. In 2013 with a crowdfunding campaign I selfpublished my photo-book La petite mort, exhibited during the Photo Festival in Arles (Book Award Exhibition), SiFest Fotofestival, LuganoPhotodays. Exbibitions held at Galleria Nobili in Milano, Guernesey Photo Festival, Studio Masiero di Milano, Beguira Photo Festival, in the collective “Eterne Stagioni” at Palazzo Ducale di Alessandria, Bonelli Lab di Canneto (Mantova) in the collective of the Arteam Cup, at Biblioteca Vallicelliana di Roma, Perugia Photo Festival, in the collective of Premio Nocivelli. In 2019 during Milano Photo Festival I had the exhibition Ho cercato la belleza perché avevo male alle ginocchia, at Studio Masiero; invited to take part to Premio Michetti 2019 –Attraversamenti – tra arte e fotografía curated by Anna Imponente and Claudio Cerritelli. 2021 Mia Art Fair in Milan.
