Mary Karssis is a Canadian gestural abstract artist and art therapist, born in Toronto on March 17, 1979. She studied Social Science at York University and Psychology at the University of Essex, bringing together a deep understanding of human emotion with a distinctive visual language that has become the hallmark of her artistic practice.
Karssis is recognized for her original gestural abstract paintings, created through her signature brush-free technique. Rejecting conventional methods, she builds expressive compositions using movement, texture, layering, and intuition, allowing each work to emerge as a direct emotional imprint rather than a planned image. Her paintings balance bold, spontaneous energy with refined minimalism, resulting in a sophisticated aesthetic that evokes timeless elegance and the quiet imperfection of wabi-sabi.
Her work has been featured on Saatchi Art and presented on the television interior design series Home Project with Nate Brookes, where its ability to transform contemporary interiors through atmosphere, texture, and emotion has been highlighted. Collectors are drawn to the emotional resonance and architectural quality of her paintings, which effortlessly bridge the worlds of fine art and design.
