I earn my living as a portrait photographer, but my personal work is all about the urban environment. Living in Brooklyn virtually all my life has provided a veritable cornucopia of inspirational opportunities for me to experiment and expand my oeuvre.
Living near the Gowanus Canal and the industrial area that surrounds it whetted my appetite to create my series, "Gowanus Impressions". For many years I have been inspired by the work of precisionist painters and photographers such as Charles Sheeler, Edward Hopper, Ralston Cranford, Paul Strand and others who experimented with a highly controlled approach to technique and form, particularly as it related to the industrial revolution. Their sense of logic, geometric shape and purity has informed my own work. My series, "Views from the Train" reflect these influences.
International Center for Photography, NY; Parsons School, NY
Numerous group shows in New York and a solo show of my series, Gowanus Impressions and Views from the train in October-November 2012.
