Mirel Ologeanu

I am a European visual artist and art professor, currently based in Romania, and a member of the Union of Visual Artists of Romania. Having lived and worked in Spain, Norway, and the United Kingdom, my practice is shaped by a diverse cultural perspective and a sustained engagement with contemporary abstraction.

My work focuses on materiality, gesture, and the emotional resonance of surface. Over the years, I have sold hundreds of artworks internationally, with a strong presence among collectors in the United States.

I am influenced by the legacy of Abstract Expressionism, particularly artists such as Jackson Pollock, Mark Rothko, and Willem de Kooning. Their approaches to color, movement, and form continue to inform my exploration of the relationship between expression and reduction.

I am especially interested in the tension between raw, physical mark-making and minimalist structures. Through my work, I seek to create a balance between intensity and restraint, where material and immaterial aspects coexist within a single visual field.

My artworks aim to offer not just an image, but an experience—inviting the viewer into a direct and personal encounter with color, texture, and presence.

I hold a Bachelor's and Master's degree in Painting from the University of Arts in Bucharest, where I developed a strong foundation in visual language, material exploration, and contemporary artistic practice.
