I often paint a picture as if low flying, this makes it possible to see whole objects at close, or great imagined distances. This is coupled by detail, painted with very fine brushes the thickness of a pin. The rich colours I use are created by building up fine glazes and complementary colours, which create an inner glow that is sometimes seen in old stained glass windows. All these differences make an involved painting that can take many months to complete, but I hope make a distinctive "˜Burrell' that will be enjoyed for a long time to come.

I believe we live on a strange and beautiful world - surrounded by a magical universe, and it's easy to forget our luck, when paying the gas and electric bills or stuck in a traffic jam. If my paintings can remind us just a little of the strangeness, beauty and mystery that we are and that surrounds us, then I have done my job.

I am a self taught artist and I have been painting for over thirty years.
