Much of my artwork has notions of the sacred at it's heart, alongside being rooted in the earth, the plants and the animals. With these works, the themes of fertility, harvest, honouring the natural cycles, male and female archetypes are given shape and form. The paintings offer worlds within worlds where nothing is quite as it may seem. Layers of simplicity and complexity, light and dark, the seen and the unseen, the obvious and the not so obvious.
As a passionate natural beekeeper, I am very aware of the precarious position that most wild animals now find themselves in as a result of the impact of human exploitation of the natural world. Many species, including honeybees are threatened by the impact of modern farmimg practice and land management. It seems to me that the well-being of the whole is bound up with all of its parts. These paintings reflect a quest for personal and collective understanding and also a desire to remember what has been forgotten.
