Martina Melkonian

The process of creating my pieces gives me the freedom to escape the stresses of everyday life and travel somewhere undefined where I make shapes, which I refer to as beings. For me, these beings are representative of stars and planets in space, which have emerged from nothing, but have grown to form shapes and produce colours. These colours and shapes make it possible for me to see beyond the observable universe and experience an existence without time.

There is no "˜right way up' to hang my paintings; they may be displayed at any angle rotation desired. This allows one to imagine one's own independent being. I have given each being a name which I feel appropriately suits its form. The sound of the name brings about a sense of peculiar language and gives the painting its unique personality.
