Lina Vandal

Born in Montréal in 1952.
Early in her life, she was introduced to visual arts by her father, who was an architect, and during her entire childhood, she attended the Montreal School of Fine Arts. Throughout her life, she entertained a passion for the world of arts, and her curiosity led her to explore numerous forms of expression, such as weaving, ceramics and sculpture, drawing and painting, dance, theatre and circus arts.
In 1999, after a career in advertizing, she decides to engage in painting. Today she is fully dedicated to her art and spends all of her time in her studio. The body and the human face immediately became the main subject of her attention and of her research, in reason of the strong emotions and mystery they inspire to her. Her creative process aims at sharing these emotions. The vigorous and rough strokes which can be seen of some of her works reflect the vibrant attitude which she manifests while facing the canvass. She typically enjoys playing with textures and patterns, from which will emerge amazing bodies and faces, yet anatomically accurate. This mix of figurative and abstract genres translates into a very personal style and graphic language.
