Sophie Gaiardo

After working primarily with oil painting for many years, I am now turning more towards drawing and watercolor. This change reflects a desire to work differently: with less emphasis on material and more room for spontaneity, drawing and color.

This evolution has also led me to explore the dialogue between traditional techniques and digital tools. A watercolor painting can become the starting point for a new creation, which I then rework in Procreate, transforming colors, shapes and rhythms until another image emerges.

I am particularly exploring a more colorful and graphic approach, close to Pop Art, especially through animal subjects. This new work is not intended to replace what I have done before, but to open up a different, freer space in which I can play with contrasts, color and the possibilities of transforming an image.

Nature and animals remain at the heart of my work, but their representation can now take very different forms — from simple watercolor paintings to hybrid creations combining drawing, painting and digital intervention.
