Love of the human figure dominates my work with a bold simplicity inspired by Gauguin, Milton Avery, and Picasso. I look for clarity of line, the form it creates, and color to contribute to the visual experience. My figurative work doesn't demand conformity to a single vision, but opens to include unique perspectives derived from personal histories. Travel has become a direct source of inspiration. Undergraduate workshops in Cuernavaca and Baja Mexico introduced me to the Mexican muralists and the rich use of cultural iconography in folk art. Ongoing travels in the Caribbean and Central America cemented my love of lush tropical landscapes and large bodies of water. When traveling I'm an outsider looking in, but where I am familiar, I become the insider looking out. My art strives to blend both perspectives. My work has been collected and exhibited nationally and internationally.
