Jarik Jongman

After studying at the Hogeschool van de Kunsten (art academy) in Arnhem (1990), Jarik Jongman
(b. 1962) worked as an assistant to Anselm Kiefer in Barjac, France (1995).
His work moves around themes such as metaphysics, transformation, history, and the human
condition.
He exhibits regularly in the Netherlands and internationally, including in Berlin, London, New York,
and Jerusalem, and has twice participated in collateral events of the Venice Biennale (2009 and
2011).
In 2010, he won first prize (shared) in the UK National Open Art Competition, with Gavin Turk as
jury chairman. His work has been selected for the Threadneedle Prize and the John Moores
Painting Prize, and was exhibited at the Liverpool Biennial in 2012. In 2017, he won the
Luxembourg Art Prize.
He has received national and international support and project grants, and has participated in
artist-in-residence programs in Berlin (DE), Szczecin (PL), Kalkhorst (DE), and the Van Gogh House
in Zundert (NL). In 2027, he will be artist-in-residence at the Drents Museum in Assen (NL).
His work is included in public and private collections in the Netherlands and abroad.
