Something within me responds to order and regularity, as anyone looking at my work can probably tell. But that’s only the beginning; my artwork may often originate from a framework of geometry, but then the craft process of its making introduces the imperfections and quirks that make the work human and which create interest in the detail. Depth and movement is introduced through the use of metal leaf, the reflective nature of which ensures a new experience every time the work is seen.
In making the work I create a calm place, a structure for contemplation. The title of the work may hint (perhaps in an ambiguous way, perhaps more obviously) at the idea behind the work, but I want to leave the viewer free to interpret it however they want; some may see a landscape, others may perceive an imaginary architectural construct, but whatever the viewer sees, I don’t mind, I just want people to have a positive experience in their encounter with the work.
