ARTIST STATEMENT

When I paint, I am in relationship with canvas. This relationship reflects the human condition interacting with the environmental forces of nature. Each work is a vignette of the dance between man, woman and nature; opposing media, at first attract one another and then repel each other. Balance becomes controlled chaos, and finally gives in to an unpredictable outcome, and the relationship is restored. This bond lives in the eyes of all who view my work.

As a fifth generation Charleston artist, Stephen carries on the noble tradition of taking the inspiring sights and textures that surround him and creating passion-filled works of art for collectors around the world.

Leaping away from his traditional training, he uses a highly nontraditional approach, combining a myriad of differing materials. Incorporating elements from the city and from the land where he lives and paints, the artist creates a truly unique avenue to delivering his visual adventure to the eager eye.​
