Derek Taylor

Making art is my true passion and helps me express myself fully in a non-verbal way and allows me to run wild with my imagination. I love creating shapes and patterns on the blank page or canvas, I lose myself in my work and all sense of time, I get totally absorbed by it.

My work is mostly abstract, sometimes minimalist and sometimes very complex and detailed; these opposites reflect my eclectic personality. For this reason I like to experiment with different styles and mediums. Presently I am mainly focussing on ink drawings but also like to use gouache and watercolours, sometimes combining both ink and paint.

I am inspired by many different abstract artists and styles from the past and present as well as patterns, shapes and colour combinations that I see around me in everyday life.

Creating art gives me a sense of meaning and purpose to my life and I love to wake up inspired and ready to create new pieces of work.
