The natural world is the source of my inspiration, the sounds of ocean, beach and dunes evocative of childhood memories.
In recent years during many hours of river/ocean rowing and competing on Cornish shores, my work has evolved lending amazing transparency, fluidity & reflections that Cornwall is renowned for.
The physical strength of Cornish of pilot gig racing also evoking adrenaline, energy, salt spray, high winds into my 'Tidalmarks'.
The environment and impacting issues caused by man made pollution is a driving force for new emerging work, currently semi abstracts & whimsical depictions of flora before coastal erosion changes natural beauty
I donated a painting to the 'Save our sands' community group, Hayle, Cornwall, in April 2011, following 20 tons of sand being over dredged and killing the dune system.
Further to this my work has been a tribute to my late mother who was an environmental scientist and in June 2015 'The Summer Exhibition', held on national beach clean day June 2016, at Stisa, St Ives.
Landscapes have been a starting point, however I have also been busy investigating and enjoying my mark making alongside these pieces, which started at my first Cornwall Open studio in 2013 aptly named 'Under the gigs!'
I am incredibly excited to share and sell my new semi abstract work and perhaps an exhibition.
The beach is not a bin!
Climate change and ocean pollution have played a vital part of my work, "I do not enjoy producing beautiful paintings of perfect scenes, that in reality are blighted by litter & dog poop bags, just because they are biodegradable, they will in fact take over 20 years to break down".
If I can raise awareness of this huge 'manmade pollution' issue, through my art work then, I feel I have done my job, A massive influence and inspiration is, of course, Sir David Attenborough.
I have watched his series since childhood with my Father, Massive thanks to the 'BBC Blue Planet' team for creating the series, its truly inspirational, for which is keeping my work current, despite my personal interest for many years.
1990-1996 Art at various Colleges, starting at Falmouth College of Art & design, I studied general Art & design for 3 years from 16 years leading to Textiles and later ceramics.
Studies gave me a broad introduction to many aspects of art, I am very versatile and really enjoy undertaking the occasional life drawing study for customers.
Mostly I work and hold open studio from my home business 'Tidalmarks'
I undertake commissions during Sept to April annually and sell originals from various restaurants, fairs and tourist information venues in Cornwall. U.K
