Ana Beatriz Fernandes explores ideas of presence and absence, time and memory.
Through continuous observation of her surroundings and living environment, her work often depicts quotidian scenes, capturing still, in-between moments: liminal spaces where daydreaming and introspection occur.
Interested in the tension between what is present and what has passed, she observes people, objects and places with a contemplative gaze, aiming to evoke something ethereal and transient.
Her process is rooted in direct observation. From tracing shadows to the use of cyanotype, she builds layers of meaning into her pieces, encouraging slow perception and inviting the viewer to notice details that might otherwise go unnoticed. She works primarily from life, either sketching outdoors or bringing collected subjects into the studio.
Ana Beatriz Fernandes lives and works in London, UK.
