Vittorio Alberto Roberto was born in 1967 in Asti. His artistic journey spans over more than forty years, during which he has produced over three thousand works.
As an abstract expressionist painter, poet, and performer, Vittorio’s creative process remains a mystery even to himself.
When asked about creativity, he admits to struggling with explanations.
The act of creating art is an enigma—a personal experience that defies easy description.
At the age of 15, Vittorio had his first “Spleen.” These vivid and intense visions of unseen paintings would suddenly appear before his eyes, like clear and luminous slides projected on a screen. Initially, he was frightened, thinking he might have a neurological issue. These “Spleen” experiences continued, each one different from the last. Inspired, he began experimenting with painting, first on paper and later on canvas. The colors vibrated, and he felt an inexplicable connection between his hands and the chromatic frequencies of the hues. It was an ecstatic process, bypassing conscious thought, and resulting in finished works that seemed to arrive from hyperspace.

Vittorio acknowledges that he doesn’t fully understand art, its origins, or its purpose. Yet, he knows he cannot live without it...

"Art is a means, not an end.
An artist, to truly be one, always creates for themselves.
They create to grow through their own creation.
They gain self-awareness.
The ‘final product’ that emerges is secondary, marginal.
It is not the ‘ultimate goal.’
They do not create for others.
They do not create for the public.
Only in this way can it be.
Not because I say so (that is irrelevant), but because the very act of creation ‘is the artwork’ itself.
This is the difference.
If we understand this, we realize that nothing truly remains.
Everything fades, everything transforms.
And it is the only way to truly endure.
Precisely as a consequence of this transformation.
Accepting the transience of one’s own creation.
And accepting our own transience as living beings.
To an artist, there is only one requirement: coherence with their own ideas, their own experiences, their individual past, their childhood, their personal history.
Without this, the work remains sterile.
It lacks soul.
It does not ascend.
It does not become ‘universal.’
And for these very reasons, the artist themselves ‘disappears.’
Evaporates.
Dissolves."
