Karlos Marquez is a Los Angeles–based contemporary abstract artist whose work explores color, texture, architecture, and the visual rhythms of the urban landscape. His layered compositions balance intuitive mark-making with structure, creating paintings that feel both energetic and refined.
Working primarily with acrylic, oil stick, charcoal, graphite, and mixed media, Marquez builds richly textured surfaces through overlapping forms, gestural lines, translucent passages, and spontaneous hand-drawn marks. His work ranges from bold, color-driven abstraction to quieter, more minimal compositions, reflecting his ongoing interest in surface, space, balance, and movement.
Marquez's artistic foundation began in the visual culture of Los Angeles and later expanded through formal studies in fine art and figure drawing. Those early influences remain present in the confidence and immediacy of his mark-making, while his current practice is firmly rooted in contemporary abstraction.
