Donna Fecteau uses texture, color and light to create soothing yet provocative canvases that reflect both the natural and spiritual worlds from which she draws inspiration. Her ghostly, ephemeral paintings celebrate movement, suggesting change and transformation and inviting endless possible interpretations. “Painting is an act of revelation to myself,” says Fecteau, who works with acrylics in an abstract expressionist style. A figure floats across a canvas. A waterfall emerges. A wash of color and movement evokes the Celts, Egyptians, druids or other spiritual cultures that influence Fecteau’s work.

Fecteau studied art at the University of New Hampshire and later moved to Washington, DC, where she worked with artist Leon Berkowitz at the Corcoran School of Art. Berkowitz, who founded the artists’ center that later became the Washington Color School, influenced Fecteau’s use of use color and light as tools to mine deeper spiritual themes. Moving to Telluride, Colorado, Fecteau created paintings with sumptuous, gilded textures that evoked the landscapes of her mountain home.

Her exhibitions have included the Wallace Wentworth Gallery and the Foundry Gallery, both in Washington DC; the Telluride Gallery of Fine Art in Telluride, CO; the Patton-Malott Gallery at the Anderson Ranch Art Center in Aspen, CO; and many others.
