Megan Harmer is an Australian contemporary artist whose practice encompasses painting, drawing and sculpture. Drawing on nature, travel, personal experience and symbolism, her work explores the relationship between visual form, emotion and the imagination.
Born in Redcliffe, Queensland, Megan began studying Visual Art at Queensland College of Art, Griffith University, at the age of 16. Her professional creative career began at 20, when she was commissioned to create original designs for surfboards destined for Japan. This early experience developed into a career spanning graphic design, art direction, advertising and marketing, alongside the continuing development of her studio practice.
Colour, expressive line, intricate pattern and organic form are recurring elements throughout Megan's work. Her paintings move between figurative and abstract approaches, often combining detailed mark-making with vivid colour and imagery drawn from the natural world, the ocean, travel and human experience. Her ceramic sculptures extend this visual language into three dimensions, translating organic forms and patterns into tactile, hand-worked works that sit between fine art and sculptural object.
Megan has exhibited internationally since 2010, when...
Megan holds a Bachelor of Visual Art in Fine Art from Griffith University (Queensland College of Art), majoring in Printmaking and minoring in Ceramics, as well as qualifications in Graphic Design and Web Publishing.
Completed an Advanced Certificate in Graphic Design and Certificate in web publishing at CATC Design School in Brisbane.
