Julio Russo

My work explores the threshold where the human form dissolves into landscape, a transition that serves as an ode to life and death within its incessant cycle. I am interested in capturing that state of impermanence where we are, essentially, life-dust: a vibrant matter that organizes and disintegrates in a constant flux.

Through oil painting, I construct chromatic atmospheres that not only surround the figures but endow them with a suggested presence. Color is not an accessory, but rather the vehicle of emotion and space itself. My process is based on a gestural yet rigorously controlled brushwork, seeking a balance between the freedom of the stroke and compositional intent.

I understand painting as an open dialogue; my pieces do not dictate an absolute truth, but rather invite the viewer to complete the work. It is in this interaction, between what I suggest and what the other perceives, where the image attains its true meaning and the figure finishes transforming.
