Karen Knorr

Born in Frankfurt am Main , Germany in 1954 and brought up in Puerto Rico in the 1960's.
Came to London in 1976 to study photography and am now based in Hackney near London Fields.

My work has developed a critical and playful dialogue with photography using different visual and textual strategies to explore her chosen subject matter that ranges from the family and lifestyle to the animal and its representation in the museum context. I use photography to explore western cultural traditions from gentlemens clubs to elegant Palladian country houses that present and comment on British society. Karen has also photographed fine art academies throughout Europe.The Academies series reflects on the relationship beween the production of art and its consumption. Her work continues a dialogue with conceptual art and feminism. Although Knorr is renown for her photography she has also worked with video and installation.

Presently working on the fables and myths of Indian culture using zenanas in Rajasthani palaces and havelis as sites .

BA Hons in Film and Photographic Arts and MA in Photographic Studies, University of Westminster and University of Derby.
