Born in Burgas, Bulgaria, in 1976, Vasil Yanev-Grapulo graduated from the art school in his hometown of Burgas in 1995. In 2000 he graduated with a master's degree in iconography and mural painting from the University of St. st Cyril and Methodius in Veliko Tarnovo.
Since then, he has worked and developed his practice in the field of abstract painting. His work explores the meeting point between the inner emotional world and the physical environment, moving beyond the limits of traditional representation. Using elements of nature as visual metaphors, his paintings are marked by abstract, meditative structures, rich in texture and restrained, near-monochrome colour. Free of clearly defined forms or recognizable figures, the compositions draw the viewer into a contemplative experience, inviting them to construct their own narratives and interpretations. Through this dynamic interplay between ambiguity and suggestion, the works become a space for introspection and personal resonance.
