Adrian Bol

Adrian Bol studied at the Gerrit Rietveld Academie in Amsterdam, where his approach to painting quickly put him at odds with the institution. Rather than adapting, he continued to work on his own terms. When he later presented a series of large-scale paintings, the response was brief: “You’re a true painter.” Nothing more was required.

From that point on, Bol maintained full control over his work, and his art extended beyond the canvas into narrative and time.

At 32, he wrote and directed his first international feature film, integrating his paintings directly into the narrative. He developed his work across painting, writing, and directing without separating them into disciplines.

Bol has remained independent of traditional gallery representation. He has exhibited across Europe, including exhibitions at Castel dell’Ovo in Naples, culminating in the solo exhibition Through the Fire at the Museo dell’Ara Pacis in Rome in 2026. His work moves within questions of spirituality and transformation. It is held in private collections and in the Cristo Re Hospital in Rome.
