"Nature is above all, creative. I have a love for the natural world and I am a keen anthropologist, bird watcher and naturalist. The beauty of the world around me is my inspiration and I want to capture and describe it to others through my painting.
I hope that this fascination is something that will be conveyed through my paintings. My intention is to show this to others in a hope that they will stop and look around them, and see beyond themselves, towards something that is not only mesmeric and contemplative, but also profoundly beautiful"
Amy Florence is a London born artist working out of her studio in Florence, Italy. At the age of 17 she moved to Florence, to train at the Charles H. Cecil Studios, a classical painting atelier, where she went on to teach the advanced painting and drawing programs for 5 years. She set up Studio Donatello in November 2014, her private studio that also offers short courses and private tuition. The classical training that Amy received evolved into modern impressionism, inspired by artists such as Berthe Morisot, Claude Monet, Arkady Plastov, Konstantin Korovin and Walter
Sickert. She is interested in the visual language of painting. Creating the illusion of form, light and life through vivacious, dappled brushstrokes.
The natural world influences Amy's life and work, she is an ornithologist and although trained initially as a portrait painter, spends much of her time painting the Landscape, and nature inspired Still-life. She continues to accept a number of portrait commissions per year and has twice exhibited with the Royal Society of Portrait Painters at the Mall Galleries in London.
She divides her time between her studio in Florence, her home in the Tuscan hillside, and her family home in London, England.
