Alan Rutherford is an artist based in Glasgow, Scotland and runs his practice from his studio at SWG3 in Glasgow. In 2019 he was awarded an MA in Fine Art from the University of the Creative Arts, London and a BA(hons) in Sculpture from the Glasgow School of art in 1999. He is an artist member of the Glasgow Sculpture Studios (GSS) and The International Sculpture Centre (ISC) and is also an ordinary member of The Society of Scottish Artists and Visual Artists Scotland. His work has been show as part of exhibitions in Cyprus, England, France, Scotland, Sweden, Wales & the USA.
Projects he has worked on have explored the frozen border conflicts in Armenia and Cyprus and also the Cold War histories of Latvia and the Baltics. More recently
between 2020 and 2023, he worked as the lead artist on a project through the British Council’s ‘Connections Through Culture’ programme, working with Chinese artists Hui Zhang, Xiaoyu Xiong and the the Ruan Yisan Heritage. The project explored the dissapearing history and identity of the historical and ancient Chinese town of Chongwu.
