Alba García explores what an artwork can become when its final form is left open.

A Spanish visual artist and photographer, her multidisciplinary practice explores transformation, identity, materiality and the relationship between image, object and space.

Working across photography, painting, textiles, image intervention and objects, García chooses the medium and materials each project requires to develop a specific idea.

Her current practice is centred on UNFIXED, a contemporary textile project exploring what happens when an artwork is deliberately left without a definitive final form.

Each UNFIXED work begins as a unique reclaimed textile, transformed by hand and delivered flat, without a fixed composition. The collector activates the work through an open system that allows it to be folded, shaped, installed, undone and reconfigured.

The artwork changes. The authorship remains.

UNFIXED explores control, transformation and participation, proposing a different relationship between artwork and collector: the person who acquires the work does not simply decide where it will exist, but becomes part of what it becomes.
