Alberto Oliveira lives and works in São Paulo, Brazil.
The realization of my work derives primarily from a sense of urgency to record my relationship with the world.
The art making process, from the initial photographic document to the exercise of why I interfere in the image to generate completely different environments, is about creating a different or alternate set of references.
Working with specific images forces me to deal with issues pertaining to life which in turn builds and rebuilds my relationship to selfhood on many levels.
I am fascinated with transcendental ideas, the aesthetic of nature, the sacred, the contemplation of inner and physical space, the complexity of being, the concepts of beauty, infinity and time, memory, silence, sublimation, identity, gender and nature. These are all recurring themes that move my work forward.
From all these self-referential processes, my objective is to create an artwork that is a bond of exchange between the artist and the viewer, and between the particular and the universal.
