Born in Mexico City in 1979 and based in Berlin, Germany, Alejandra Vargas Díaz develops an artistic practice rooted in attention. Working across photography, collage, printmaking, and painting, she investigates what remains when experience is reduced to its essential form. Her work gradually moves away from narrative, allowing images to exist beyond their origin and remain open to individual interpretation.
Practice
I work through attention.
I stay with an image, a memory, or a feeling long enough for something that would normally go unnoticed to become visible. That is where every work begins.
Rather than illustrating experience, I reduce it until only what feels essential remains. Once a work finds its own balance, it no longer belongs entirely to me. I hope each viewer finds their own way into it, bringing their own memories, emotions, and ways of seeing.
