Alex Stavropoulos

I am an Athens-based artist working primarily with acrylic on canvas and paper. My practice combines expressive abstraction with geometric and biomorphic forms, exploring emergence, inner conflict and the shifting nature of identity.

Angular shapes, layered colour and scraped surfaces create tension between structure and disruption. Dark masses meet vivid accents, while traces of earlier layers remain visible as part of each painting’s history.

After nearly thirty years away from painting, I returned to my practice in 2025. Since then, I have developed a connected body of work and participated in group exhibitions in Athens.

My paintings suggest rather than explain. Forms may evoke bodies, fractured reflections or internal landscapes, leaving viewers space to interpret them through their own feelings and experiences.
