Àlex Young I Aliaga

I have exhibited my work internationally and at major art centres such as the Barbican Art Centre in London. I have lived and worked in London, Berlin, Madrid and Barcelona.
In a lot of my more abstract work attention is drawn to the act of painting itself; the counterbalance between material aspects of the painterly sign and their signifying role in search of a plurality of meaning and possible readings.
I often paint without a preconceived idea of the finished work, in favour of a more immediate interaction with the canvas, in which materials, gesture, speed, imperfection, and improvisation can lead to unforseen results.
