Statement
Amanda's abstract-expressive work is based on the experience of materials and the sensual nature of working with traditional oils, resins made from dammar and beeswax and also modern materials including powdered fillers and PVA.
The process-led work is layered. Fissures and cracks appear during the making of the works, as they dry they are scraped into revealing what has gone on before. It is then reapplied and built up until an image emerges.
Colour holds a strong emotional value in her work, which she channels into a distinct visual language. Exuberant and chromatic, the works reveal things that are specific to her and an open invitation to the viewer.
Lives and works in South Manchester, England.
Inspired by David Hockney, Sean Scully and Gerhard Richter.
Technique is layers of oil paint and resin which are built up over time to create lots of texture.
