Amparo Modino

I am a contemporary figurative artist based in the Canary Islands. My work is driven by a deep interest in the human face and in what lies beyond what we immediately see — the inner strength, personal history and identity that inhabit a gaze.

I paint as a way of understanding what moves me. Portraiture becomes a form of dialogue. Through color, contrast and a visual language influenced by contemporary culture and pop aesthetics, I seek to transform recognizable faces into intense and symbolic presences.

Although my ongoing series Iconic Women focuses on well-known cultural figures, my interest does not lie in celebrity itself, but in the energy, resilience, vulnerability and determination they embody. For me, these works are emotional reinterpretations — conversations between their story and my own.

My practice moves between portraiture and cultural iconography, between the personal and the collective. I am not interested in reproducing a photograph, but in capturing an energy — turning image into presence.

Independent artistic training complemented by private courses in drawing and painting, with a focus on portraiture and figurative practice.
