Australian born, I have lived and worked on 5 continents over the past 30 years and have been involved in the creative media fields for more than 25 years.
I have been interested in photography since a boy and am most attracted to alternative process photography and the traditional and vintage printing formats.
Over the years I have shot with all types of cameras but prefer large format and often use an 8x10 camera for producing large size negatives required for many of the vintage printing processes such as platinum or albumen printing.
During the late 80's thru the mid 90's I was part of the video/performance art group Hyperdelic Video.
Hyperdelic was based in Tokyo and then San Francisco. During that time, Hyperdelic produced and directed both live-video VJ performances and music videos for many of the musicians and DJs that were part of the early electronic dance music movement of the 90s. I also worked closely with many in the alternative/underground community in the United States, including Timothy Leary during this time, producing videos and real-time VJ'ing during Tim's lectures and public appearances.
Have been involved in visual arts: photography, video art, commercial graphic design, motion graphics for more than 25 years.
I have pretty much used every format in photography at some point in the past, from 35 mm black and white to 8x10 inch large format alternative process photography. I am self-taught and have studied the great photographers of the past for technique and direction. Of course, alternative process is a field of photography that is still being rediscovered and re-invented and has very much the do-it-yourself ethos that the earlier pioneers of photography had to have.
Most of my published visual art has been in the motion graphic world. As a Tokyo and then San Francisco based video artist in the 90' and 00's my video art was part of the electronic dance movement of that time and was widely seen in large scale club and music event environments at the time. My work was seen on MTV as the intro title sequence for the AMPED program and featured in one of the MTV music awards ceremonies in the mid 90's. My video art was included in many CD and video anthologies of that time and featured in a number of electronic music videos for a number of bands.
My still photography has not been seen as widely. I was a founding member of the Contact Printers Guild and my platinum and AZO prints were exhibited as part of group shows that the CPG showed in several galleries in the USA in the early 2000's.
My still photography was annually shown at the Sebastopol Center for the Arts in northern California in the mid 2000's where I lived at the time.
