Angela Liu is a self-taught Surrealist graphite artist and a first-generation immigrant from Taiwan. After earning a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, she spent more than a decade working as a software engineer before discovering her creative side.
In 2018, during a period of burnout and self-reflection, Angela began drawing as a way to process emotions she couldn’t express in words. What began as a personal outlet gradually evolved into a full-fledged passion. In 2023, she left her engineering career to pursue art full-time.
Angela’s Surrealist graphite drawings explore emotions that are universally felt yet often left unspoken—overthinking, grief, impostor syndrome, and the quiet act of carrying on through pain. Each piece is deeply personal and accompanied by short writings that reveal the story or emotion behind the work.
For Angela, art is a form of conversation—an intimate dialogue between artist and viewer that transcends language. Through intricate lines and delicate shading, she seeks to transform complex feelings into visual narratives, inviting others to recognize themselves in her work and feel a little less alone in their own experiences.
