Anke Doerschlen is a photographer based in Germany. In addition to portraits and floral stills she captures the vast beauty of the natural world in her photographs, which have a dreamlike, surreal and almost otherworldly appearance. With the technique of infrared photography she transforms familiar landscape scenes into something new and captivating.

In Praise of Impermanence is a series of fine art photographs exploring the fleeting beauty of magnolia blossoms through the expressive language of the camera itself — intentional movement, multiple exposure, soft focus, and deliberate abstraction. Rather than freezing the flower in sharp, clinical detail, each image surrenders something of its precision in order to gain something harder to achieve: atmosphere, feeling, the sense of a moment already passing.
Shot against dark, enveloping backgrounds, the blossoms appear luminous and fragile — emerging from shadow as if from memory.
