Anna Godes

Anna Godes is a painter based in the South of France, working primarily in watercolor, gouache and pastel. Rooted in academic drawing and direct observation, her practice centres on painting from life, both in the studio and outdoors.

Born in Saint Petersburg and living in France for more than twenty years, she draws inspiration from landscapes, portraits and everyday objects encountered in daily life and during her travels through France, Italy, Norway and Finland.

For Anna, every painting begins with attentive observation. Through colour, light and subtle relationships between forms, she seeks to capture not only the appearance of a subject but also the feeling of a fleeting moment and the stories it may hold.

Alongside her artistic practice, she teaches drawing and painting to adults and children. Her greatest hope is that her work will evoke in others something of the emotion, curiosity and wonder she experienced while creating it.
