Anna Rail

Anna Rail was born and raised in a small fishing village called Pigeon Hill in northern New Brunswick, Canada. She now lives in Dieppe, NB. Anna has been working with watercolours since 2003 and discovered the art of watercolour batik on paper a few years later. Batik is a traditional Indonesian textile technique, but Anna practices it in a contemporary form on paper, which is different from the more formal styles.

Anna prefers to work with Japanese paper due to its consistency, flexibility, and texture. The process of batik has taught her patience, and the end result is always worth it when the wax is removed and unplanned designs appear through the veined effect.

Nature has always been a great source of inspiration for Anna, particularly the sea, wharves, fishing boats, and abandoned structures on the road. Her travels have led her to embrace a "whimsical" style that captures the essence of life without boundaries through flamboyant colours.

Over the years, I have exhibited in many art galleries in New Brunswick and Nova Scotia. Some of the galleries: Lunenburg Art Gallery (NS), Restigouche Art Gallery in Campbellton as well as other galleries in Bathurst, Miramichi, Saint John, Fredericton, Moncton and Shippagan in New Brunswick.
