Anne Parlog

I am a Romanian artist based in Bucharest. After a career in law, alongside private studies in theatre and work in fashion design, I turned to painting as a way to explore memory, identity and human connection. Working with oil, charcoal and mixed media, I move between figurative and semi-abstract imagery, building emotionally charged spaces where figures, gestures and objects suggest more than they explain. Each painting begins with an emotion, a question or an inner tension. The story behind it offers a point of entry, while leaving room for viewers to bring their own experiences to the work.
I do not begin with sketches or a predetermined subject. I come to the canvas with an emotion, still undefined, and let it take shape as I work. I begin freehand, following the tension of the moment, and make an initial charcoal étude. Then I turn the canvas and continue from a different orientation. This shift unsettles my first reading of the image and allows new forms and relationships to emerge. I studied law at the University of Bucharest and practiced as a lawyer for twenty years. I later pursued private theatre studies and also worked in fashion design before turning to painting. My artistic education combines painting studies at “Sunt Arta” in Bucharest, participation in painting camps, guidance from artist mentors and independent, self directed study.
