António Bernardino Coelho is an award-winning Portuguese photographer and electrical engineer based in Recarei, near Porto. He is primarily known for his highly conceptual still-life, architecture, and landscape photography, often incorporating social commentary on themes like pollution, war, and technology.
Background: Though an engineer by profession, he began his photography journey in 2010 after a trip to Cuba. He started with analog machines, such as the Zeiss Ikon Nettar, before transitioning to digital in 2015.
Creative Approach: He describes himself as a "photo hunter" for nature (especially mushrooms) but a meticulous creator for his still-life works, often sketching ideas in a notebook before building them physically using objects like staples, screws, or plastic cutlery.
Notable Series:
"State of Mind": A satirical exploration of the modern psyche using disturbing objects to represent fear, addiction, and consumerism.
"Plastic, one enemy?": A project addressing the environmental impact of plastic on food and nature.
"The City": A recreation of a city skyline made entirely from screws on a glass surface.
