My life before art was spent in biology. Dissection was always a curiosity and an adventure, so when I moved into the art world, cutting a surface to find the underlying structure was a process I kept as I "dessected" canvases. I learned that the process had a close emotional link to moving, since my spouse and I moved every 2-4 years: being torn away from a place.
In an effort to produce art that would be less threatening to viwers, I sought out other biological forms. Having previously created a series entitled "Ovum Series" in response to Judy Chicago's early work, I was already working in a circular format when I discovered beautiful molds growing in circular containers in my refrigerator. Thus began my "Ascomycetes Series."
The molds morfed into smaller watercolors in a series of "Planets with their Moon," and finally into my current work consisting of found hubcaps (sic.) mounted over autobiographical anecdotes that express both my early life experiences as well as my philosophy of life in general. I titled this series: "LifeCycle: The Hub of the Matter - Books on Wheel."
