Oleksii Popovtsev

I am a Ukrainian visual artist and graphic designer working under the name Aronetiv. My practice is centered on abstract painting and the Color Script project.

I work with limited palettes and build paintings through the gradual interaction of color forms. The final composition is not planned in advance. Forms appear, overlap, change direction, press against one another, or remain separate as the painting develops.

Color is the main material of the work. I am interested in how color changes through proximity, scale, sequence, and spatial relationships, while still retaining its own identity. The physical qualities of painting — gesture, density, edges, irregularities, and traces of the hand — are equally important.

My works often remain between abstraction and recognition. They may suggest landscapes, objects, or living forms without becoming representations of them.

For me, painting should also provide a direct visual experience. Beauty, balance, tension, and the pleasure of looking at color are central criteria in how I evaluate a finished work.
