Kalopsia

Kalopsia is a series of paintings concerned with the representation of people in the media. Figures found in fashion and gossip magazines contend in a hyper-space where perceived ideas of reality start to blur. Movement is central to these works fragmented figures push to the edge of the surface or hover between the 2-dimensional painted surface and what lies beyond, as if the painted figures where about to step out of the painting itself. In these paintings the figures are homogenous, no longer identifiable cultural stars, pop singers or models just well known bodies and faces abstracted into a space beyond the ordinary.
