Painted during the pandemic lockdowns, this series approaches melancholy as a literary and poetic condition rather than a clinical one. Mythological, biblical and literary figures, Prometheus, Ophelia, Endymion, King Saul, are shown at the moment of waiting, stripped of heroic grandeur and set against a flat black background. The series treats melancholy not as despair but as a suspended state, the pause before or after an event rather than the event itself.
